Sam brings more than twenty-five years of strategic management experience to the service of family enterprises and philanthropic organizations. He has served as a consultant to family businesses, family offices, and family foundations for more than 16 years.
Raised in a third generation family business, Sam is recognized for his capabilities in addressing the specialized issues experienced by family enterprises and philanthropic organizations – particularly matters to do with leadership and ownership transitions, family governance, strategic philanthropy, business strategy, and organizational change.
Early on in his career, Sam was a senior executive in the real estate development and manufacturing industries. He served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business for almost ten years, teaching Strategic Management and Organizational Behavior.
Sam earned an MBA in Finance at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, an MTS in Ethics and Theology from Episcopal Divinity School, and a BS in Naval Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.
